KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A meeting will be held where city officials are hoping to recieve feedback on the possible redesign of several city streets.
A presentation detailing potential options for reconfigurations to city roads will be presented at a community meeting on Wednesday, March 4th from 6:30 to 8 P.M. at the Central Library on South Rose Street.
The meeting is the third of its kind seeking to inform and provide a platform for discussion on the city’s Streets Design plan, taking place just two days after a major project begins on a portion of Cork Street.
A presentation by city planning employees will include the work behind the street design process and how Kalamazoo’s Complete Streets program could move forward in achieving its stated goals. City officals say an openhouse with community discussion will take place after the presentation.
The ongoing process of evaluating redesign plans began after Kalamazoo took control of several high-traffic streets from the state, including Park Steet, Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo Avenue, and Westnedge Avenue.
At previous meetings community members voiced support over new measures like turning busy one-ways into two-way routes, adding bike lanes, and making streets more accessible to pedestrians.
Parts of the public input process involve gathering street designs created by city residents themselves, as well as reports detailing which areas are most traveled on both bicycle and foot.
A proposal of recommended street designs and tentative project costs will be discussed at a future meeting being held later in the spring.
