HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A two county police chase began Saturday morning around 8:45 a.m. in Berrien County when police noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-94 near the 17-mile marker.
Berrien County police units pursued the vehicle, a 2019 gray Chrysler 300 that was headed toward Van Buren County. Baroda-Lake Police Department attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued on at high speeds fleeing police.
The vehicle eventually entered into Van Buren County on County Road 362 and then turned north on County Road 687.
The suspect then lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speed and icy road conditions. The vehicle then left the roadway striking a 90 foot tall aluminum utility pole, causing significant damage to the passenger side.
The passenger of the vehicle was airlifted from the scene and is listed in critical condition.
The suspect is currently lodged at the Berrien County Jail on several Felony and Misdemeanor charges.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the crash investigation along with the assistance of the Michigan State Police.
