CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police say that a man is now in custody after trying to hide in his attic following reports of an alleged sexual assault incident.
Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department were called around 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, February 11th to a home on East Sunset Boulevard in Pennfield Township where the incident took place.
A 17-year-old victim said that she was assaulted by a 22-year-old man at his home, and had left the location to go to a nearby business after the suspect stopped her from calling 911.
After arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that the man remained inside but refused to come outside or talk with them. Sheriff’s deputies say that a woman who lived at the home later arrived and gave police permission to enter and arrest the suspect.
Upon entering police found the man hiding in an attic, and seized evidence of the alleged assault following obtaining a warrant.
The male suspect was taken into custody and has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and resisting police.
