KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An early morning crash resulted in scattered outages around the downtown Kalamazoo area.
The Kalamazoo County Central Dispatch Authority says the crash occurred on North Westnedge Avenue at Norway Avenue on the city’s Northside causing downed power lines in that area.
Power outages were first reported around 1:45 a.m. It mainly affects homeowners in the West Douglas Neighborhood, the Northside, and other surrounding areas around downtown.
A semi-truck appeared to have lost control and smashed into a pole and a vacant home, causing a power pole to fall on top of the truck. The exact cause of the crash is still unknown.
The roadway where the incident occurred was shut down for several hours around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday but it has since reopened.
Around 3 a.m. Consumers Energy officials said about 1300 customers are without power. A majority of customers were restored around 5 a.m.and the remaining were fixed around 7:30 a.m. A very small outage near West Paterson Street and Staples Avenue may not be restored until around 10 a.m.

Northglade Montessori is also closed Tuesday due to the outage.
