VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An upcoming episode of a popular cable series that follows the day to day work of law enforcement will feature a local sheriff.
A&E Network’s Live PD announced in 2019 that it had partnered with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, bringing the program to Southwest Michigan.
The network has announced that the episode featuring Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott will premiere on Wednesday, February 12th at 8 P.M.
The department previously signed a contract with the show, allowing a film crew to follow the sheriff and deputies in patrol cars for five days a week.
Possibly included in the episode is dash camera footage released during the filming period, showing Abbott assisting in the roadside arrest of a man accused of multiple crimes.
Abbott was recently selected as a finalist for the 2019 National Sheriff of the Year award handed out by the National Sheriff’s Association. The organization said in an announcement that Abbott demonstrated accomplishments in office and getting involved with the community during his tenure.
He has been in office since winning countywide election in 2016, and previously served as a sargent in the sheriff’s office Uniform Division for multiple years.
A&E says that so far only 10 sheriffs have been included on the program, with Abbott being the first law enforcment official to be featured from Michigan.
