PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Firefighters are saying that no injuries are reported after they responsed to a housefire at an empty home.
Crews with the Portage Department of Public Safety Fire Division were dispatched at 7:22 A.M. to a fire at 330 Montague Drive. The blaze was first noticed by neighbors who made the call to authorities after seeing smoke coming from the roof of the building.
Portage fire units conducted a search of the home where no occupants were found. After locating the source of the fire in a bathroom wall and attic they were able to extinguish it within 20 minutes.
The crew was assisted by the Texas Township Fire Department and Pride Ambulance service.
Firefighters at the scene say that assessed damage to the property is estimated to be $50,000. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched by the Portage Fire Marshall’s Office.
