KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — City officials have issued a boil water advisory after a water main break Wednesday morning.
Crews were called to repair a break that occured on the southeast side of Kalamazoo at Lake Street. The resulting disruption prompted the city to announce the advisory for several neighborhood streets nearby.
The affected areas include the south side of Lake Street from Healy Street to 150 feet west of Shakespeare Avenue, the north side of Lake Street from Healy Street to 275 feet west of Shakespeare Avenue.
In a mixed residential/commerical area off of Lake Street, residents affected include Shakespeare Avenue from Lake Street to Clinton Street on both sides, East Stockbridge Avenue from Schuster Avenie to East Stockbridge on both sides, Byron Avenue from East Stockbridge to Egleston Avenue on both sides, Eagleston from Byron Avenue to its dead end on both sides, Schuster Avenue on both sides, Clinton Avenue on both sides.
City health officials are cautioning that as of now the advisory is strictly precautionary., and no tests have indicated bacteria present in water sourced near the main break.
Residents are encouraged to use bottled water, but can use tap water if boiled for atleast two minutes.
The boil water advisory is expected to be lifted by Saturday, February 8th.
