EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State University’s Mark Dantonio has announced he is retiring after spending the last 13 years as coach of the Spartans football team.
The 63-year-old Dantonio went 114-57 at East Lansing, leading Michigan State to Big Ten titles in 2010, 2013 and 2015 – including a trip to the College Football Playoff following the 2015 season. But after a 10-win season in 2017, Michigan State has finished 7-6 each of the last two years.
Defensive coordinator Mike Tressel will be the acting head coach while the university seeks a full-time replacement.
