MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State Police say that the statewide 911 outage issues have been fixed.
This comes after a fiber optic issue caused multi-county emergency outages early Friday morning. Many services were affected for nearly four hours as dispatchers worked to fix the problem.
Dispatchers told anyone in need to call their local non-emergency lines if the 911 lines were not functioning.
For the future, Michigan State Police have a list of all the non-emergency numbers for each county, which can be found here.

MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities say a failed fiber optic update is causing 911 outages across the state.
UPDATE: At 4:45 a.m. Friday the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority reported that all 911 and non-emergency telephone services have been restored in Kalamazoo county.
UPDATE: At 6:40 a.m. the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department reported that all 911 lines are stable in Calhoun County with full restoration.
Calhoun can still text 911 if they need help, but other counties will have to use non-emergency numbers.
This is how text to 911 works –
- Create a text message like you normally would, in the spot where your contacts name or phone number would normally be displayed type in “911” as the phone number.
- Type your message and include your address and send the message
- An emergency dispatcher will respond to your message and coordinate a response with emergency services for your area
Other counties non-emergency 911 numbers are:
- Calhoun County: 269-781-0911 or text 911
- Battle Creek: 269-781-0912 or text 911
- Kalamazoo County: 269-488-8911 or text 911
- Van Buren County: 269-657-3101
- Barry County: 269-948-4800
- Kent County: 616-632-6357
- Ionia County: 616-527-0400
