CASSOPOLIS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Niles man accused of killing a pregnant teen girl when he was also only a teen could now be eligible for a parole review next year.
43-year-old Robert Leamon has been serving a life sentence ever since he was 16 for the death of his girlfriend 15-year-old Rebecca Stowe.
Stowe went missing in 1993 until her body was found buried on a farm in Cass County in 1995. Leamon apparently strangled Stowe to death after she told him she was pregnant and refused to get an abortion.
Leamon was convicted in 1997. But, due to the 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that mandatory life sentences for juvenile offenders are unconstitutional, he had his sentence tossed earlier this month and was re-sentenced.
On Thursday in Cass County Court Leamon was re-sentenced to 25 to 60 years in prison, with credit for 24 years and three months already served. He could now apply for parole in less than a year.
