KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A local hookah lounge near the campus of Western Michigan University has announced that it will be closing its doors.
Blaze Hookah Lounge, located at 2804 W Michigan Ave, Ste 101, made the announcement via Facebook on Thursday, January 23.
Owners of the business cite the recent age change to 21 from 18 to purchase tobacco products as part of the reason for the closure.
The statement from Blaze staff can be read in full below:
“So after a long 10 years it’s time to say goodbye to Blaze Hookah Lounge in Kalamazoo. Unfortunately the latest move, in many moves by the government to limit freedom in business, this time to raise the smoking age to 21 is an obstacle that we cannot overcome. It’s a bittersweet time because as sad as we are we are so grateful for the memories over the last 10 years and all the people who contributed to our success from the beginning.
To all the former employees, customers, friends anyone I forgot and anyone I’ve tagged that’s been with us over the years thank you from the bottom of our hearts we appreciate you so much!
Please support our Grand Rapids location EASTOWN HOOKAH LOUNGE as we are fighting to keep up the 15 years of business with all these government restrictions to keep the party, art and love going!
Brent and Emad”
As stated by the owners, the Grand Rapids location will remain open.
