LAWRENCE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After being pursued by police, two teens are in custody for allegedly stealing vehicles in the Paw Paw area.
Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies became aware of a stolen 2000 Ford Taurus from the night before after receiving a report.
The following day on Wednesday, January 22nd, around 8 A.M. a deputy spotted the stolen vehicle traveling southbound on Paw Paw Street approaching Corwin Road. While attempting to pull over the vehicle, the suspect fled the scene before eventually losing control and crashing.
The 17-year-old suspect fled the scene and was soon after followed by the officer. Several other officers and a Michigan State K-9 Unit were called in to the area to track the suspect, who was found trying to hide in a nearby mobile home.
After being surrounded the suspect eventually surrendered to authorities.
He and his 18-year-old brother are suspected of multiple vehicle thefts and larceny within the Village of Lawrence. Van Buren County investigators executed a search warrant for the home the 17-year-old suspect fled into where they recovered evidence possibly linking the two to other crimes in the area.
The 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody and is now being lodged in the Van Buren County Jail. He is facing multiple charges including motor vehicle theft, fleeing and eluding police, resisting, and operating a vehicle without a valid I.D.
No other information regarding the suspects has been released by police.
