KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s good news for food truck operators in Kalamazoo.
On Tuesday the Kalamazoo City Commission approved their ordinance to allow more food trucks to operate in town and lower the permit fee.
The original permit fee was at $500 but has now dropped to $300. The proposition for lowering the price was made by some food truck vendors earlier in 2018 and 2019, saying that cities of similar sizes have lower licence costs.
This approved ordinance also removes the cap on the number of licenses allowed, allows food trailers, and requires fire safety inspections.
Trucks will also be allowed to have sandwich boards for advertising outside, provided that there is a “sufficient pedestrian pathway” on the sidewalk.
Officials hope this will encourage more food truck operators to bring their business to Kalamazoo.
