KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Flags will be flying half-mast throughout Michigan on Thursday in honor of a fallen service member from the Kalamazoo area.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer made the order for all U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered in honor of Army Specialist Bradley Walsh as he returns home to be buried on Thursday, January 23rd.
Walsh was on active duty when he died on January 8th, 2020 from unspecified causes.
The 21-year-old was born in Kalamazoo on January 14th, 1998 and grew up in the Michigan town of Hillman. After graduating in 2017 he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia. Walsh was in his third year of service when he passed away in January.
His remains were flown into Gerald R. Ford International Airport on January 17th, in preparation for his homecoming funeral.
Governor Whitmer said in a statement that, “Our state mourns the loss of Army Specialist Bradley Walsh as he is laid to rest. We are grateful for his selfless service to our state and nation in the United States Army. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church before he is laid to rest at Harwick Cemetery in Mattawan.
