KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo’s Bronson Park served as the meet up spot for this year’s Women’s March hosted by the Kalamazoo YWCA.
Participants brought family, friends, and even their furry companions along to take part in the march which began on the southwest side of the park and wound it’s way up Westnedge Avenue and through downtown on West Michigan Avenue before ending up at the First Congregational Church for a series of presentations.
Prior to the march, participants warmed up with coffee and hot chocolate provided by the YWCA which also collected donations of women’s personal care items along with monetary contributions.
Julie Hahn, a teacher at Parchment Middle School was more than eager to brave the weather to hopefully spur a change.
“Hoping to encourage women to go into the sciences. I teach 8th grade science and I’m appalled by the fact that only 14% of engineers in the United States are female,” said Hahn.
The day’s activities featured guest speaker State Rep. Sarah Anthony (District 68).
The theme of the march was “Building Power Together.”
