KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two juvenile suspects are now in custody after trying to flee from officers in a stolen car.
At 11:55 A.M. on Friday, January 17th, a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer attempted to pull over a vehicle near Clarence St. and E. Vine St. for a seatbelt violation. After fleeing at high speed, two separate groups of officers decided not to pursue the driver.
Minutes later police learned that same vehicle had been stolen the night before, and the current occupants had ditched it at the 3500 block of Lincolnshire Blvd. and were running away on foot.
Several responding officers and K-9 Cole trailed the suspects, who were spotted near Portage St. and Dorchester Ave.
After the area was flooded by police cruisers, two juvenile suspects were detained by police. According to the department they are currently being lodged in a juvenile home.
No additional information has been released regarding the suspects or stolen vehicle. Both minors are awaiting possible criminal charges related to the incident.
