CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After a crash with a semi-trailer, a woman from Indiana was killed while her vehicle merged the wrong way onto US-131 in St. Joseph County.
The 31-year-old Elkhart native was traveling in a pickup truck on Wednesday, January 15th when the vehicle turned southbound onto US-131 from Riverside Drive in Constantine Township. Around 7 P.M. the pickup, driven by another 27-year-old woman also from Elkhart, began crossing the wrong direction into the northbound lanes of US-131, where it collided with a semi-trailer.
The trailer’s driver, a 64-year-old man from Goshen, Indiana, attempted to avoid colliding with the truck but even after swerving still crashed into them.
The woman was killed in the resulting crash, while the driver and a 36-year old passenger in the pickup were hospitalized and treated for injuries.
No suspect information or additional information has been released at this time, and police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. Authorities currently believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
