SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One camper is destroyed and one driver has been hospitalized following a crash in South Haven Tuesday night.
South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) reports that the crash took place around 8:45 p.m. on northbound I-96 at the M-140 exit. The driver was hauling a camper with a pickup.
Just before the exit, the driver lost control, causing the camper to scrape against the concrete bridge supports and travel several hundred feet.
Officials say that the resulting wreck “disintegrated” the camper, and debris was strewn along I-96 for about a quarter mile.
SHAES then transferred the driver to Bronson-South Haven Hospital by ambulance. Despite this, the driver was not seriously injured.
The scene of the incident was then turned over to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for cleanup.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
