KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public School Board President Patti Sholler-Barber is being elected by trustees to serve another year in the top job.
Trustee Tianna Harrison made the nomination Thursday night at their first meeting of 2020. Harrison was elected to be Vice President of the board.
Sholler-Barber is the longest serving member on the current Board of Trustees.
Harrison says this is no time to change leadership, because right now they need her experience to help with the search for the district’s next Superintendent.
In fact, KPS trustees will be spending the next week pouring through applications to fill their vacant Superintendent position.
Next Thursday they will vote for their list of semi-finalists and submit their favorites to the executive search firm which has been seeking candidates.
Sholler-Barber says for now the names won’t be made public.
The next step in the process for whoever clears the first screening will be submitting a video explaining why they want the job, and why think they are qualified.
Candidate interviews are expected to begin January 28th and a candidate could be offered the position after the board’s February 19th meeting.
