LAWRENCE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man is in the Van Buren County jail after he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and her mother over the weekend.
It occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a home on Elizabeth Street in the Village of Lawrence.
Deputies say they received a call from the victim about the assault but later learned that the suspect grabbed the woman’s phone and broke it, ending the call.
When they arrived the 24-year-old man from the Lawrence/Covert area fled out the back door.
Van Buren County Sheriff deputies launched K9 Kuno who located the man a short distance away from the house. They say it’s all thanks to their new technology called MASTRACK which helped them track their K9 using GPS to give other deputies a live up to date feed on their location.
The 24-year-old man from the Lawrence/Covert are, who was also found to be on probation, was taken into custody interfering with 911 communication, violating a personal protection ordinance, and for 2 counts of domestic assault. Charges are also being sought for his probation violation.
The conditions of the 67-year-old mother and 22-year-old woman both from Lawrence were not released.
