HOLLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — People gathered together to honor Eliza Trainer who was swept off a pier in Holland this week.
A vigil for the 16-year-old teen was held at a Flint area Church on Saturday. Family and friends at the prayer vigil talked about Eliza’s unique spirit and the joy she brought to people’s lives.
Close family friend Krysta Reichhart said the family is having a hard time dealing with her loss.
Reichhart described Trainer as a “wonderful girl.” She said the last conversation she had with the teen was this summer. Trainer was encouraging Reichhart’s daughters to be strong in the face of adversity and always stand up for what was right.
“I know the first time I met her I had the opportunity to share the gospel with her and that’s important to me,” said Reichhart.
The family friend said looking back, that was a very important conversation they shared together.
Crews resumed their search for Trainer on Saturday morning but had to be pulled back due to rough conditions according to the Ottawa County Sheriffs Office.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Jay Douglas said before they stopped, the crew had a small window to put a robot into the lake.
“This robot has video sonar capabilities and it was able to search an area until the weather came back up on the rocks along the pier, but we have not located anything,” said Douglas.
