KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A teen suspected of shooting at a group of people in Kalamazoo’s Edison Neighborhood on New Year’s Eve is now being formally charged.
18-year-old Rodolfo Sanchez was arraigned on Thursday for the incident that occurred around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Hayes Park Avenue near James Street.
Public Safety officers were patrolling the neighborhood when they saw Sanchez in the middle of the street firing a gun at a group of people on a porch in the 1100 block of Hays Park Avenue.
He attempted to flee on foot but was later arrested and the loaded firearm was recovered.
At last reported nobody was injured on the porch but the Sanchez did suffer a wound to his leg where he shot himself. Details on why he was shooting at the group were not made known.
The teen pleaded not guilty to one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon and one misdemeanor for reckless discharge of a firearm.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 21st.
