KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) – Now that the Christmas holiday is over, residents in Kalamazoo and Portage who are wondering what to do with their Christmas tree have options.
In Kalamazoo County, you don’t have to just throw it away. Kalamazoo residents can drop Christmas trees off at the Farmers’ market parking lot on Bank Street in Kalamazoo.
Only bare trees are accepted. All ornaments and decorations must be removed before dropping the tree off for recycling. Trees can be dropped off at the 1204 Bank Street site anytime through Feb. 16, 2020.
In Portage, Christmas tree recycling is part of the city’s quarterly curbside brush collection. The collection begins on Mondays in January and is according to zones designated by the city.
Trees will be collected in each of four zones during one week in January. Trees must be placed at curbside by 7 a.m. on the week of pickup.
