KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A person is recovering from serious injuries after they set themself on fire at a Kalamazoo gas station, in what officers are calling an apparent suicide attempt.
Kalamazoo Township officers and firefighters responded around 3 p.m. Thursday, December 26th to an emergency call regarding a person on fire at the Marathon Gas Station at West Main and Dartmouth St.
Police say they believe the victim doused themselves with gasoline and then lit the fire intentionally.
They were later taken to the hospital by ambulence to be treated for severe injuries to their torso. According to authorities, other customers were not at risk and the scene has been cleared.
The person has not yet been identified, nor has family been notified as last reported according to police.
