KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials with an area jobs program say they plan on expanding their activites after partnering with local law enforcement.
The Momentum Employment Program has partnered with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office to offer job assistance to inmates and those released from prison.
The Urban Alliance, which runs the program, says that the jobs-training initiative has a 72% completion rate and90% job placement rate. More than 450 people have gone through the program, and area leaders have called it one of the most successful of its kind in the country.
The program has been operating out of the Kalamazoo area for nearly 5 years, with the goal of eliminating barriers to employment among marginalized populations, including ex-felons and those affected by homelessness.
The Urban Alliance recently launched a pilot course to connect with local inmates in 2019. As part of the readjustment curriculum, course covers topics including interviewing skills, resume building, and conflict resolution.
