KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo city government is holding a meeting to present and discuss changes to a stretch of Portage Street, as part of the community’s multi-year development plan.
The proposed changes would affect the area of Portage Street from near Washington Square to Crosstown Parkway, on the western edge of the Edison neighborhood.
The city’s goal is to spur economic development in the highlighted area, and leaders hope to begin redevelopment by rezoning the street to allow walkable mixed-use development and removing barriers in place that prevent the contruction of new housing.
Changes to the corridor we’re laid out in the city’s Master Plan and Edison Neighborhood Plan, which also emphasize the need for more affordable housing in the area.
The meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 P.M. on Thursday, December 19th at City View in the Square.
