EAST LANSING, MI — A Mississippi man is facing up to life in prison for the murder of a Michigan State University student outside an East Lansing apartment complex last year.
Thirty-three-year-old Steven Washington was found guilty by a jury in Lansing yesterday of second-degree murder and two gun charges for shooting and killing 22-year-old Isai Berrones, who had come outside to try to break up an argument.
Berrones was from Texas and was a senior at MSU when he weas shot to death in 2018.
Washington’s attorney contends prosecutors should have gone after MSU student Ivan Keener for instigating the fight. Keener testified with immunity at Washington’s trial.
