OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Meijer’s annual “Shop with a Hero” event is pairing law enforcement officers with area children for a unique shopping experience.
22 kids from the Kalamazoo-area will get to pick out toys and presents for themselves and loved ones during the initiative on Tuesday, December 17th. The event takes place at the Meijer on West Main Street in Oshtemo Township.
State troopers will pick each of the selected children from school and take them to lunch before heading to store for afternoon shopping.
Meijer says that it’s held more than 100 “Shop with a Hero” events across the midwest region, pairing kids with area police, fire fighters, and athletes.
Previously last week the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s office hosted their event at the Meijer on Gull Road in Comstock Township and at the Target on West Main Street in Oshtemo Township.
Sheriff Richard Fuller says over 70 children and families had the opportunity to pick out some Christmas items with the help of local officers, firemen, and first responders.
