DOWAGIAC, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Dowagiac have announced that a man accused of felonious assault has been arrested as of Monday.
Police say that shortly after 3 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16th, officers were called to the 100 block of Jay St after being contacted by a resident who said she was assaulted by a family member.
The victim said that the man hit her in the face with a swinging chainsaw chain, as well as struck her with a small baseball bat. The victim only experienced minor injuries, which she treated herself.
Officers located the suspect at his apartment, which was also on Jay St. The suspect refused to cooperate with police until a warrant was served.
Due to the nature of the activity, police called the Cass County Warrant Service Team to help execute the warrant. Once contact was made, the suspect and another man left the apartment without further incident.
Officers arrested the male suspect, who is described as a 53-year-old from Dowagiac, for charges of felonious/aggravated assault. He is now lodged at the Cass County Jail.
The other male suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was also lodged at the Cass County Jail. All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
The name of the suspects are being withheld pending arraignment in Cass County 4th District Court.
The case remains under investigation at this time.
