LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Bills aimed at stopping the growing trend of package thefts from homes became effective today.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a package of bills earlier this year making it a crime if you are caught stealing a package.
The laws closed a gap in federal and state laws and now will result in a misdemeanor charge for the first offense and a felony for a second offense with a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $1,000 fine or both.
