BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Planning continues for the December 18th reelection campaign visit with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence to Battle Creek.
City officials say with this type of visit come many logistical and planning issues that are being worked through, in coordination with U.S. Secret Service, the presidential campaign, and other law enforcement staff.
The campaign rally is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kellogg Arena, in downtown Battle Creek. Organizers anticipate a larger crowd than the arena’s capacity, so overflow will be outside at the adjacent Festival Market Square. Roads around the arena will begin closing as early at 8 a.m.
Beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesdsay there will be no parking at Full Blast, Wave Square at McCamly and Jackson Streets, the Riverwalk Centre parking ramp, and the Hamblin Avenue parking ramp all in the downtown area.
Officials are recommending two routes to get downtown: Dickman Road to Washington Avenue to Van Buren Street or M-66 to Van Buren Street.
More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the rally. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to watch the weather forecast, and dress for that day’s conditions, since December weather can be unpredictable as cold temperatures, and the potential for snow are expected.
