SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — Representative Fred Upton is announcing he will not be voting to impeach President Trump.
In a statement made yesterday, Upton said the impeachment process has been “highly partisan” and is calling it an attempt to overturn the next election.
The representative said in his statement, “Democrats aren’t happy with the result. But the time to vote on the next President is next November, not next week.”
Congressional leadership led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and democratic allies have pursued articles of impeachment over President Trump’s alleged efforts to have the Ukrainian president open an investigation into the son of potential rival Joe Biden.
After formally launching the process in November, the House of Representatives has initiated scheduled testimony from witnesses and experts before the house judiciary committee. House members could possibly vote on articles of impeachment before the annual holiday recess, in which case the Senate would try to president if it passes.
The moderate republican who represents the 4th congressional district covering most of southwest Michigan, is considered a prime target by democrats encouraged by strong turnout for candidate Matthew Longjohn in 2018’s midterm elections.
