ESCANABA, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Portage man who robbed a fast food restaurant in the Upper Peninsula claims he did it because he wanted to go back to prison.
59-year-old Mark Wilson was sentenced on Monday to at least 25 years in prison for robbing the Hardee’s in Escanaba last July.
Wilson apparently handed a note to an employee saying that he was robbing the business, claimed that he was armed, and then hid in the restroom until officers arrived.
No weapon was ever located.
He told a judge that he’s “lost the ability to function normally with society” and told his attorney that he’s happy with 25-to-40 years in prison.
Wilson has previous convictions in Kalamazoo and other counties dating all the way back to 1983.
