KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The president of Western Michigan University is receiving a large raise and contract extension after a yearly performance review.
WMU President Edward Montgomery was awarded a 5.4% raise, amounting to a nearly $25,000 dollar increase of his base salary of $486,000 a year, by the school’s board of trustees on Thursday, December 12th.
Montgomery was also approved for a 5 year extension of his contract by board members. A statement passed in trustee approved resolution said the president’s tenure has been marked by “exemplary leadership” at the university.
Montgomery began as president at WMU in August of 2017 to an intitial 3-year-contract. He originally came to WMU from Georgetown University, where the academic had served as dean and professor of economics at that university’s McCourt School of Public Policy from 2010 until his departure.
The president is the ninth to take the postion since the university was founded in 1903.
