KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Live entertainment meant to illustrate problems relating to drug addiction will be making a stop in Kalamazoo this week by way of the Unite to Face Addiction Michigan (UFAM) tour.
Although the tour has been active for over a decade, this will be the first-ever stop in Kalamazoo.
“UFAM is an advocacy group, they’re trying to bring awareness to the issue of addiction and recovery,” Kalamazoo coordinator Dominick Gladstone said. “Even today, years later, we have a big bias. Persons in long-term recovery are everywhere and we want to call attention to the issue, we want to break the bias.”
As a part of the stop, UFAM will be making appearances at KPEP, Gilmore Treatment Center and the Kalamazoo County Jail before the big show.
The show is known to use humor to convey a message and will feature appearances from guests such as comedian Mark Lundholm, former NFL player Randy Grimes, and more.
“Addiction is costing the U.S. economy trillions of dollars in incarceration, treatment and loss of income,” Gladstone said. “We are trying to bring awareness to the issue and encourage those affected using humor, music and stories.”
The main show will be taking place at the nonprofit organization COPE network, located at 2705 Virginia Ave. in Kalamazoo.
The show begins at 5:30 p.m. and will run until 9 on Wednesday, Dec. 11th. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at this link.
