BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Battle Creek say that charges have been brought against a man who caused a death in a drunk driving incident earlier this year.
Last July, Steven-Ernest Smith of Olivet was speeding in Clarence Township when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree.
Smith was injured in the crash while his passenger, 52-year-old Jeffrey Strang, died.
Police say that Smith was arraigned Thursday on charges of second-degree murder and operating under the influence causing death. His bond was set at $10,000.
Smith had previously been convicted of drunk driving in June and was on probation at the time of the crash.
