KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo teacher is being named Michigan’s Middle School English Teacher of the Year.
At Thursday night’s school board meeting trustees honored Stephanie Hampton, who received the award from the Michigan Council of Teachers of English.
Hampton teaches English to 140 6th graders at Maple Street Middle School.
She is also a living example of the benefits of the Kalamazoo Promise, graduating from Loy Norrix in the first class to receive tuition money from the Promise Scholarship, and then returning back to Kalamazoo after college to teach.
Hampton says the number one job is teaching students to master reading. Shas developed a number of innovative approaches and programs to keep students engaged and learning.
