OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — An armed robber is in custody after he was shot by a liquor store clerk in Oshtemo Township.
The robbery happened just before 1 p.m. at the Bronco Liquor near KL Avenue and Drake Road in Oshtemo Township on Thursday, December 5th.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies say the suspect walked into the business armed with a gun, demanded money, and was shot and injured by the store clerk, but still managed to flee with some cash.
Authorities located the suspect about a half a mile from the liquor store in the 700 block of Drake Road, recovered the money, and arrested him.
Western Michigan University Public Safety officers sent out a tweet around 1:30 p.m. Thursday urging residents to use caution going through the area.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department says their deputies did not fire at the suspect, and they believe he was shot by the clerk, suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm.
At first authorities said three suspects were in custody relating to the incident, but they have since corrected that information and now say only 1 man was arrested.
The robber is expected to be arraigned on Friday. The employee’s actions will be also be reviewed by the prosecutor.
