KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The city of Kalamazoo is hosting a unique event aimed at young families this weekend.
The 14th annual Candy Cane Hunt will run from noon to 2 P.M. on Saturday, December 7th at Mayors’ Riverfront Park in Kalamazoo.
The Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation department says that nearly 5000 candy canes will be scattered throughout the park.
Those who attend can also get a chance to write letters to Santa, and participate in holiday-themed arts and crafts.
The candy cane hunt will be divided by age, with children age 4 and under beginning at 12:30 P.M. , 5 and 6 years-olds start at 12:55 P.M., and 7 to 8 year-olds at 1:20 P.M.
The first 75 participants of each age group who register will be awarded prizes, and can compete for 10 large stockings filled with gifts and three grand prizes.
Officials say the event is free and open to the public. Participants can register at the entrance to Homer Stryker Field inside the park.
