KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Sheriff Richard Fuller is warning citizens of a new scam in the Kalamazoo area.
Fuller warns that the perpetrators are posing as Sheriff’s office employees, including himself.
“There is a scam going on in this area that someone is using my name, and my office to collect Blue Dot cards from people, scaring them [into] thinking that I’m coming to arrest them,” Fuller said.
Blue Dot Cards are a type of Visa prepaid gift card. Fuller says there is no practice of collecting these cards in place at the office.
“I am not coming to arrest you,” Fuller said. “Do not send Blue Dot cards, information over the phone, do not go get Blue Dot cards for anybody telling you that they are owed money and that you have to go get it now.”
Anyone with concerns or information about the scam can call the Sheriff’s Office at 269-383-8821.
