UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Weather conditions over Thanksgiving weekend are expected to get worse over time. Current estimates include high winds of over 60 MPH, plus snow and rain in some areas.
As a result, Consumers Energy is reminding citizens that downed power lines and outages are a possibility during conditions like these.
In the event of a downed power line, citizens should adhere to the following safety tips:
- stay at least 25 feet away from a downed wire and anything it is touching
- call 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050
- Always assume a downed wire, even if not arching and sparking, is energized.
Consumers Energy says that, despite the holiday weekend, crews will be on hand to restore power as quickly as possible in the event of any outages.
In the event of a power outage, citizens are reminded to never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes. This could produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless and deadly gas.
Citizens are encouraged to visit www.ConsumersEnergy.com/OutageCenter for the latest on storm restoration times, tips on what customers can do before, during and after a storm and how customers can sign up for free outage alerts.
