BERRIEN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A state police trooper and a truck driver are hurt after a drunk driver crashed into two semi-tractor trailers in Berrien County.
It happened around 3 a.m. Monday on westbound I-94 at Red Arrow Highway near Sawyer.
Police were conducting a traffic stop on eastbound I-94 when the driver sped away and hit the trooper who was standing near the vehicle.
The at-fault driver then exited onto Red Arrow Highway, jumped back onto the freeway heading westbound, collided into a semi-truck, and then lost control and rolled into another semi.
One of the truck drivers and the trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries and the 4 in the fleeing vehicle were not injured.
The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated among other charges and the freeway was shut down for several hours.
