KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Citizens in Kalamazoo will have the opportunity to try different beers brewed by students of Kalamazoo Valley Community College this week.
On Tuesday, Nov. 26th, students will be hosting a tap takeover at KVCC’s 418 Restaurant inside the Marilyn J. Schlack Culinary and Allied Health Building.
The different beers were created by students enrolled in KVCC’s sustainable brewing program.
The event comes following the proper licenses were issued to the college to sell its student-crafted beer.
“We’re so pleased to finally be able to serve the amazing beers that our students have been making and not let them go to waste,” sustainable brewing instructor Brian Lindberg said in a statement. “Our curriculum focuses on sustainable practices and this is another way that we can utilize what we teach with a hands-on approach.”
According to the college, 48 students are currently enrolled in the program and 64 students have graduated through the program since it began.
“They’re definitely doing some great things over at the brewing program and now it’s time to celebrate,” Kalamazoo Valley’s Executive Vice President of Enrollment and Campus Operations Mike Collins said in a statement. “I think it’s great!”
Student-made beer will be available for $1 per four-ounce taste, along with wine for $3 a glass.
Students and instructors will also be on hand to answer questions and provide tours.
The tap takeover will last from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Marilyn J. Schlack Culinary and Allied Health Building is located at 418 E Walnut St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
