ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — As a part of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1st, the Allegan County Health Department will be offering free AIDS testing on Monday, Dec. 2nd.
The department says that 16,306 individuals were estimated to be living with HIV in Michigan as of January 2018. Of the reported cases, just over half have a diagnosis of AIDS.
The goal of the free testing is to help end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The 2019 theme for World AIDS Day is “Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Community by Community,” which is meant to draw attention to the importance of tailoring efforts to diagnose, treat, prevent, and respond to HIV.
On Monday, Dec. 2nd, the department will be offering a walk-in clinic for confidential HIV testing from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Participants will receive test results during their visits.
The tests will be free to all participants. Information about prevention and transmission will also be provided.
Citizens unable to participate in the testing on Dec. 2nd can make an appointment on a different date by calling (269) 673-5411.
More information can be found by visiting www.allegancounty.org/health.
The department is located at 3255 122nd Avenue, Suite 200, Allegan, MI.
