BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials in Battle Creek are reporting that a garage fire Monday night did not result in any injuries.
Around 7:45 p.m., the Battle Creek Fire Department responded to the address of 28 Sylvan, where crews discovered the fire at a detached garage unit.
According to an official press release, BCFD responded with 19 firefighters and 1 command officer. During response, Rescue 3 was diverted to a passenger vehicle fire close to the house at 20 Vale and was assisted by Emmett Township. Squad 2 was diverted to a priority 1 medical emergency.
Engine 2, Rescue 4, Engine 5, Truck 6, Squad 6, and Car 3 handled the small-detached garage fire.
The BCFD says the fire was extinguished quickly.
The garage had two rooms in it besides the vehicle bay. One room was used for a smoking area and had a small space heater in it. The probable cause was the heater igniting something close to it as that was the room of origin.
Crews were on scene about 2 hours completing ventilation, salvage, and overhaul.
