COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is advising citizens to avoid lake banks near Morrow Dam while scheduled maintenance is taking place.
According to an official press release, STS HYDROPOWER, LLC (STS) has announced that it is conducting a 13-foot drawdown of Morrow Lake to conduct required maintenance activities at the Morrow Dam, and repair or replace two of the Morrow Dam spillway gates that are located at the end of the Lake in the Comstock Township.
The Lake level is being lowered at a rate of about 6 inches per day, weather permitting, and will remain at the lower level for an estimated 4-month period.
Police say that the lowered condition of the lake is uncommon, and as such, the public is advised to keep away from all lake banks and not approach the water for personal safety reasons.
