KALAMAZOO/PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Residents around Kalamazoo’s Westnedge Hill neighborhood may have been concerned about a heavy police presence near the animal hospital Thursday evening, but it was actually to send a proper farewell.
Portage Public Safety officers say K-9 Zorro had to be put down due to medical complications.
The 4-year-old German Shepherd served on the police force for 2-years.
Officers from Portage, Western, and Kalamazoo surrounded the Southwest Michigan Animal ER to pray for the dog and honor his service.
