SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Schoolcraft citizens have voted against a nearly $40 million proposal that would have been used for public school renovations and other related projects as of Tuesday.
Previously, a request was issued for $39.9 million in funding for the purposes of building a new elementary school, renovating the high school, and other renovation projects.
According to the district website, the proposal would have called for a 3-mill property tax to generate the funds.
“Our current elementary and middle schools and some athletic facilities are old and failing,” the district website reads. “We’ve maintained them for as long as possible. Every Schoolcraft student deserves a quality learning environment that equips them to succeed for a lifetime.”
Overall, citizens voted against the proposal.
District leaders are reportedly disappointed with the results and are now planning to ask community members what can be done to create a better solution.
