KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man who killed his girlfriend before putting her body in a suitcase and dumping it in the Comstock Creek has been sentenced in Kalamazoo court.
Donnovan Lewis, 27, has been sentenced to between 25 and 40 years in the murder of Western Michigan University student Aniya Mack, 24.
The crime occurred in 2018, during which Lewis killed Mack after an argument. He showed the police where the body was just days later.
During his stay in Kalamazoo County Jail, he attempted to escape, but was caught about 30 minutes later. He is already serving a sentence on escape charges and will not serve the murder charge until the first sentence is complete.
Lewis had previously plead guilty in September to second-degree murder.
