Kalamazoo, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Kalamazoo are reporting a structure fire that took place in the 2200 Block of S. Burdick St. last Friday.
Police say that around 9:50 PM on October 25th 2019, officers responded to the address for reports of smoke coming from the eaves of the residence.
The first responding officers saw heavy smoke coming from all sides of the residence, as well as flames through the second floor windows.
Police say that an interior fire attack was commenced, however, the fire breached the roof moments after officers entered. Due to the heavy fire conditions and structural failures on the second floor and roof officers were forced to exit and take a defensive stance instead.
Officers did not locate anyone inside the building.
Damage was prevented to neighboring houses. After improving fire conditions inside the residence, officers were able to re-enter the second floor and extinguish the remainder of the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time by the Fire Marshall’s Office.
